The Longest Table Dayton

An initiative designed to connect people, neighborhoods, and ideas is hosting monthly community meals and gatherings at various organizations throughout the City.
The Longest Table Dayton, a winning project from this year’s UpDayton Summit led by City of Dayton Legislative Aide Bryan Stewart, connected Daytoniains from every corner of the city and region last October. Over 300 people gathered for a community meal and dialogue on the Third Street Bridge – Dayton’s Peace Bridge and spent the afternoon learning about each other and the neighborhoods they call home.
As a follow up to the initial event, organizers are hosting smaller community meals throughout the city to continue to share conversation, diverse stories and lived experiences, and build new relationships with people from different communities, zip codes and neighborhoods that might not ever have had the opportunity to be acquainted. The first of which was held at the Wesley Community Center this past February with over 60 participants.
The City of Dayton Human Relations Council is sponsoring the monthly meals. With a vision of “Many people. Many voices. One city”, the Council sees these events as an opportunity to break down barriers and build inclusive communities.
The next community meal will be held by The University of Dayton’s Student Government Association (SGA) on March 19, 2017.
