The Community Initiative to Reduce Gun Violence (CIRGV) is hosting the first of four Neighborhood Affairs, as part of the CIRGV Community Engagement Team’s 2014 Action Plan. The event will take place Thursday, March 27, at the Westwood PreK-8 School (2805 Oakridge Dr.), from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
This event explores the devastating violence has on individuals, families and neighborhoods. Law enforcement representatives will provide clear, concise information about who to call concerning specific crimes, what to expect when you talk to an operator or officer, and what support you can expect from law enforcement.
Community members will have an opportunity to ask questions, share information about crime trends, and connect to services that help stabilize and empower families and individuals. Attendees can interact and get to know their neighbors, community leaders, social service providers, and law enforcement officials.
Future steps for the initiative include community trainings, neighborhood canvassing and neighborhood-led crime reduction efforts using cell phones and computers.
CIRGV is an initiative that seeks to reduce gun violence in Montgomery County through engaging the moral voice of the community, offering life changing supportive services and employing strategic, multi-jurisdictional law enforcement efforts. Community leaders, concerned residents, social service providers, violence prevention groups, faith-based organization, educational institutions, and local and federal law enforcement agencies support CIRGV.
